Masserie are among Puglia’s most distinctive architectural forms. Originally built as fortified rural farmhouses, they vary enormously in scale and character — from centuries-old stone buildings with raw, timeworn interiors to carefully restored properties where historic architecture meets contemporary design.

For art directors, producers, photographers, filmmakers and brands, Masserie can offer substantial rooms with the volume and space needed to pull back, alongside vaulted ceilings, courtyards, terraces, stone staircases and extensive grounds.

We tend to select Masserie with generous windows and good natural light — something we know is particularly important when assessing a location for a crew.

For larger crews, a Masseria can also offer practical advantages. Depending on the property, generous internal and external spaces can provide greater flexibility for shooting, equipment and crew movement, while courtyards and extensive grounds can make the logistics of a production considerably easier.
